Recruitment week is fast approaching, so check out our recruitment page to get all of the details! We hope to see you there!

For more information about Kappa Alpha Theta take a look at our Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/#!/browntheta

Kappa Alpha Theta, the first Greek letter fraternity for women, was founded in 1870 at DePauw University. Our four founders, Bettie Locke Hamilton, Alice Allen Brant, Bettie Tipton Lindsey, and Hannah Fitch Shaw, were quite the forward-thinking women when creating the first all-women fraternity modeled after male fraternities.

2010 InitiationKappa Alpha Theta was founded at Brown University in 1897 as the Alpha Epsilon chapter. We have many sisterhood events and study breaks throughout the year which increase our campus presence as well as bring us closer together as sisters! Our various activities each semester include Ratty dinners, study breaks, social events, attending sporting events, gym classes, community service activities, going out for ice cream, and movie nights. Study breaks include pumpkin carving, apple picking, picnics, ice-skating, BBQs, ballroom and swing dancing lessons, making s’mores, and cookie decorating!

In joining Theta, you are choosing to be a part of a sisterhood that values friendship, scholarship, and leadership. On campus at Brown, Thetas stand out in academics, sports, clubs, volunteer organizations, and other extra-curricular activities such as SPEC, Club Field Hockey, and Meiklejohn advising. Each fall we host two campus-wide philanthropy events. This year the two events were a Charity Denim sale and the Hoops for CASA basketball tournament; in the past our events have included a KATWalk, “ROCK the CASA” and sports tournaments.

In striving to succeed intellectually, our chapter has consistently achieved the highest all-sorority GPA average on campus. One of our sisters was even named one of Glamour Magazine’s Top 10 College Women of 2008! Our chapter has been recognized nationally for our achievements by being awarded a “Bronze Kite” as well as a Risk Management award. Alumnae from our chapter have gone on to programs such as Teach for America, Harvard Law School, Americorps, Brown Medical School, the 2+2 Harvard Business School program, and other successful job opportunities.

Recruitment at Brown

Many hear the word rush and scary visions of hazing and pranks race through their heads. Don’t be scared of Rush at Brown! It is a recruitment process in which absolutely no hazing is allowed. Recruitment is here to provide a fun, exciting, and informative way of both acquainting all students with the fraternity/sorority/coed society systems at Brown as well as enabling all students to have sufficient contact with individual houses so as to facilitate and promote a wise decision. Basically, Recruitment gives you the chance to explore the possibilities of Greek life. As much as we make the decision to welcome you into our house, you make the equally important decision of welcoming Theta into your life.

Joining Theta

Theta offers friendship and support that will last a lifetime. By becoming a Theta you are not only aligning yourself with some of the most influential women in history but you are also becoming a part of a larger network of women joined together through sisterhood and tradition. This sisterhood is composed of a group of passionate women who aspire to the highest ideals in everything they do and who exhibit the strongest love and loyalty to one another.

Moreover, Thetas can be found just about anywhere on campus! We stand out in academics, sports, clubs, volunteer organizations and a plethora of other extra-curricular activities. Within our sisterhood you will be provided with an unlimited opportunity for involvement and personal development. We are a group of independent and diverse women who want to make the most of our Brown experience, and we are offering you the chance to do the same!
